About Me

For almost sixty years I have lived within sight and sound of some part of the Southern Railway. Now, with my retirement in sight, I am making an effort to recreate a part of the railway that has been my constant companion. Currently wanting a dark brown leather Lazy Boy recliner whilst hoping someone will make a nice cup of tea.

In a Dorset shed

Ten years ago and after a thirty year career exhibiting, I began to plan the ‘ultimate’ layout, not big just the last one that I will build in my lifetime. It fills the workshop, it was designed to be fully portable and the continuous trackplan of station to fiddleyard precluded anything except exhibiting.

However I made a fundamental error, I forgot that I was getting older and the layout would need some serious muscle power to move around – ten big boards plus all the gash means a full Transit. This was OK when we lived amongst a large urban community but before the layout was started we had moved to a rural location in anticipation of retirement and away from the comfort and support zone.

Not wishing to ignore the local catchment area of West Dorset, it may be of interest to consider the invitation to come along to one of the Sunday running sessions on Beaminster Road - which is now fully functional.

As the weather improves, we hope to provide another couple of 'Workshop Days' as last year's DCC 101 proved quite popular. Refreshments are provided, there is unrestricted parking and there are no costs involved.

If interested, please text or call 07861 380101 for more details about where and when.

We're in the local freebie!
