About the blog

This rambling blog is about building a couple of simple layouts in HO, the available space is rather small but the prototype was not built on the grand scale, most rural stations were merely a curved loop and a siding, which is easy to replicate.

How it all began

Once upon a time.....

Those with a long memory might remember the HO version of Pottendorf at the NEC, S'Hertogenbosch and Newcastle (thanks MaxStafford) unfortunately the fabric of the layout did not fare well and it met its untimely end at the claws of a local cat (a valid reason for being a dog-person). Foolishly, I made a decision to return to my 'roots' and follow a path to British Railways, what followed was five years of tedium until the chance discovery of the enclosed photo reminded me of what I was missing.

98 886 with the P3947 going to Königshofen crossing a typical “Saalebrückchen” near Wülfershausen, on 05.07.1967.

Pottendorf III will, hopefully, cure all the mistakes made all those years ago whilst introducing new errors of judgement. This time the boards are better and the trackplan is realistic but time is not on my side.

There is a need to do some work, not a moment to loose.......
