About the blog

This rambling blog is about building a couple of simple layouts in HO, the available space is rather small but the prototype was not built on the grand scale, most stations were merely a curved loop and a siding.

Far travelled K.Bay.Sts.B. loco

The image dates from January 1917, just over one hundred years ago, it shows a CVI 1607 2-6-0 goods loco that had been impressed into service for the German army. The location is somewhere near Montmedy but the loco was based at Bw Longuyon which has long been an important rail crossroads, located between the iron ore of the Briey basin and the coal mining area of the North.

The CVI class was continued with the G3/4N and eventually replaced in the 20's by the G3/4H later BR54.15-17, the most powerful European 2-6-0 and the last class of original tender locos of the K.Bay.Sts.B. - none were preserved.
