About the blog

This rambling blog is about building a simple layout in HO, the available space is rather small but the prototype was not built on the grand scale, most rural stations were merely a curved loop and a siding, which is easy to replicate.

Scenery begins to take shape

My preferred method of scenic shaping is to use polybead covered in single-ply paper towels (the nasty tough ones in filling stations) and then painted with household emulsion prior to greenery.

The corner by the door has just received its first layer of paper towels, one towel provides four sheets, anything bigger is too awkward to handle. I just cut the towel, paint both the towel and scenic lump with dilute PVA (always Resin W) and lay carefully, the wrinkles in the towels add to the texture.
