About the blog

This rambling blog is about building a couple of simple layouts in HO, the available space is rather small but the prototype was not built on the grand scale, most rural stations were merely a curved loop and a siding, which is easy to replicate.

Veilbronn -June 15

Over fifty years ago, this was Veilbronn, a small halt on the Wiesenttalbahn in Oberfranken.

The location is the inspiration for my layout and this year we returned to see what remains.

 Towards Gasseldorf

On the other side of the valley

  1. it looks as though someone has gone to a lot of trouble to restore the landscape. Is the old track bed a cycle track? Richard

  2. The old trackbed exists as a byeway with only Gasseldorf and Unterleinleiter stations remaining.

  3. The DMU at Veilsbronn is either VT 70 970 or VT 70 971 - one of only 2 DMU with alloy bodies, called "Hydronalium" by the time when they were constructed. Only the front is red painted, all other areas are justblank metal.
