About the blog

This rambling blog is about building a simple layout in HO, the available space is rather small but the prototype was not built on the grand scale, most rural stations were merely a curved loop and a siding, which is easy to replicate.

Card modelling - 3

There was no intention to post so soon after the last but building the farm building was so enjoyable that it seemed odd not to share the next build - the cottage, Dorfstrasse 7. The image below shows what it should look like but the boarded-up ground floor will not be copied, a new door and window are on order from York Modelmaking.

The shell was pretty easy, the internal floors were omitted to allow access during construction and additional blobs of PVA were brushed into all the internal joints.

The red colouring is an experiment with pastel chalks, very posh Daler-Rowney water colour pencils and artists acrylic on the brickwork.

The roof is not a simple one-piece moulding, it must be built from strips of card on a base, this is the start of the construction.

And here is the unpainted roof in place.

  1. Now you're getting me all inspired. Just need to get through the tracklaying and I can start the fun bits...
