Locomotives of Beaminster Road - the models and prototypes

Almost a year since a list of prototype images appeared on this blog, models of the locomotives have been built or acquired and things have settled down, the list of locos required for working the D&E has been resolved.

Keeping with a theme of 'tall chimney, big domes and low boilers' (with one or two notable exceptions) the candidates are not obvious and certainly not from the same source.

All were either allocated to Dorchester and Exmouth Junction or noted in the area. They were all pre-grouping designs and were treated by the Southern as being capable of use as mixed traffic when required.

Finally, DS1169 Ruston 48DS was allocated to Yeovil Junction, it will be used to transport wagons to the Dorset Farmers Siding.
