Scenery

Fränkische Schweiz, the hills and the valleys

Around the region

 Modelling the scenery

Custom-made grass mats are a solution to using static grass on hillsides when the static grass fibres tend not to adhere.

The basic material is Tom Chambers Flourish basket liner, other basket liners are available.

After unpacking, the liner is cut to fit the shape of the area to be covered, all pieces of string and nasty bits are removed at this stage from the liner and it is given a general tidy-up.

The mat is placed on some newspaper and sprayed with 3m Mount adhesive and then covered in static grass fibres of different lengths. This gives a varied rough texture, an additional but optional process was a blow over with Humbrol 80 spray acrylic 'Green Grass'

Test Sample, too verdant, better luck next time

Once dry, the piece of homemade mat can be fixed into shape. The same process was used to create rough verges for the lane (see below)

The site of the old creamery siding which has been repurposed as Pottendorf posed a few problems of steep slopes that were a challenge to cover in grass, the grass mat was used.
